Let's face it, unless you have a heart of pure stone, you cannot dislike Andrew W.K.
You may dislike his music, find him annoying, think he's too much of a party-goer, etc, but you just cannot dislike him for who he is and the stuff he's done for people. This is a man who really goes not even the extra mile, but to the ends of the earth for his fans. Some of the things he's done for fans you might not even believe, but there's one thing about him; He's bros with everyone, regardless of if they're bros with him or not.
Personally? I love the guy. He's one of my favorite musicians. Sure I practically worship Mike Patton, Devin Townsend, Trent Reznor, etc etc, but Andrew W.K. has something special about him. He isn't the most talented, but he has the most heart and soul out of any musician I've seen so far. He loves life and he shows it.
The best way I can describe this album in one word is just 'fun'. If 'fun' was a genre, he would rule it. But it seems to be a mix between dance/pop music with hard rock. He brings such energy to music it's almost unreal. His concerts must be tons of fun, and they certainly look the part.
'It's Time To Party' opens up the album, and it's a brilliant opening for this album. Blaring keyboards everywhere along with Andrew yelling that it is, indeed, time to party.
That leads very nicely into 'Party Hard' which some would say is Andrew's signature song. Fit with loud guitars and keyboards, his yelling, and an electronic voice for the chorus, it's full of energy.
You know what? I can't review every track on this album. While they're all great, they all have a similar feel. Is that bad? No. Because the fun and energy never stops with this album! It'd be a great album to have playing in the background during a party, and in a way, I think that's just what Andrew intended.
Here's the thing though: If you come in expecting the most talented music you've ever heard, you will be disappointed. Sorely. Andrew and his backing musicians aren't Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, or any famed, influential, and talented band. What they are, though, is a fun one. And that's really all they're about; fun.
For people who like this kind of music, I'd give it a 8/10. For people who don't, this is probably a 6/10 at best. But who cares? Check this out!
