OFWGKTA - Radical

It's probably best those offended by strong language not read this because I quote several lines they use on this album. Scramble along, Republicans! Scram!

Are they gone?

Alright, it's definitely no secret I love the hip-hop collective OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All), so I just had to review this as soon as I could, my favorite album ever put out by them or any member of them. It's like a compilation album, with each vocalist (aside from R&B singer Frank Ocean) performing on it, rapping over their favorite beats from other people's songs. It's just fun, clever, hilarious, and awesome.

ofwgkta, odd future, wolf gang, golf wang, hodgy beats, tyler the creator, domo genesis, hodgy beatsThis album is unique in the way it presents itself. It's a hip-hop album, yes, but of varying styles and genres, just like OFWGKTA in general. You cannot compare any member to another. Each member is at their best on this release, from Tyler, the Creator's aggression being in full-fold, to Mike G's mellowness sliding in the background. Even producer Left Brain shows up to do a few lines, Syd tha Kyd appears to do a line, and the group's two mascots, Taco and Jasper the Fucking Dolphin show up to rap. Badly, but hilariously.

I feel like in a way, I've got to review the first six tracks (excluding the intro) of this 17 track mixtape because of just how awesome this is.

ofwgkta, odd future, wolf gang, golf wang, radical, tyler the creator, tyler okonma, yonkersTyler, the Creator enters the album after the intro with 'Splatter', a song using 'Skrung Owt' by Fam-Lay with a heavy, somewhat distorted beat, but completely killing it with his aggression and raspy voice, delivering explicit, clever lines to show off his vocabulary, with one that always gets me:

"Fuck Tyler, I'mma change my name to Uncle Phil, because every girl I deal and fuck, it's always against her Will."

Hodgy Beats soon enters, slowing down his vocals, with his track 'Turnt Down' sampling 'All The Way Turnt Up' by Roscoe Dash making a real nice ghetto atmosphere to it, and while he does deliver a few clever lines, he definitely isn't the strongest lyricist in the group, and is kind of a short track. "Bitch, I'm on the grind like I grind my teeth, put you niggas in tortillas 'cause I grind my beef, and I poke her face, just like I'm playing poker, chillin' like a villain, paintin' faces like the Joker."

Earl Sweatshirt then takes his place on the next track, 'Drop', sampling 'Drop' by Rich Boy. A beat everyone and their grandmother has sampled before, which Earl even references in the beginning my stating "I know everyone has their fuckin' version of this, but nobody did it justice.." and goes on to say "Tell your bitch to stop complainin' 'bout her achey tits. The body is a temple? I don't give a fuck, I'm Atheist." Such a special little 16 year old prodigy.

ofwgkta, odd future, wolf gang, golf wang, radical, domo genesis, salutreOn the next track, 'Salute', Domo Genesis appears to talk about how great he is, with his nasally voice, the only problem is that he, like Hodgy, aren't exactly the most clever with their lines, with Domo mainly focusing on rhyming with simple phrases and words, without trying to be that clever. "When I step up to the plate, you consider my shit a win, Never gonna stop, Genesis is the begin, all about the money, I'm changing my name to Yen."

ofwgkta, odd future, wolf gang, golf wang, radical, mike gFinally, out of these six songs, the calm Mike G appears to rap over an equally calm soul-instrumental, rapping about his life, but this track seems to go on maybe just a little too long near the end, when he lets the instrumental ride on its own. "I'm a real nigga, man, I ain't dealing with the haters, only time I'll stop writin' is when they run out of paper, even then, my flow sick, so I probably don't need it, say you're makin' moves, but I probably won't see it.."

I'm sorry to go on and on about these tracks, but this album is absolutely phenomenal. They weren't signed, they just put this album for fun, never expecting it to get famous.

Now I went on and on about those tracks, but what is (very arguably) the best track here? EarlWolf's (Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt) 'Orange Juice' where they rap over 'Lemonade' by Gucci Mane, which some of you may know is an absolutely dreadful rapper that's given great beats, but cannot do anything worthwhile with them, and man, these two brothers are hilarious here, exchanging verses, showing just who the competition is messing with; A force to be reckoned with. With Earl saying "With a nose full of chowder, he's choppin' up all the bodies see, now watch him count the bodies like bitches be countin' calories" about himself, and Tyler saying "Had to duct tape the mother goose, the mask is off, I stumbled down the hill, and I had Jill jack me off. Harder than my dick when Taylor Swift is in my basement, 'cause I've been doing this since Pooh fucked Christopher Robinson."

Yeah, I don't think their parents heard this album when it came out.

ofwgkta, odd future, wolf gang, golf wang, radical, earl sweatshirt, tyler the creator, earlwolfNow what are the bad things I can find about this mixtape? Maybe aside from a few tracks that I find less than great, such as 'Up' by Tyler, Domo, and Hodgy, I have no problem with this mixtape. Ignore the fans. OFWGKTA is great. OFWGKTA will (hopefully) be here for years to come, and they're already leaving a footprint on the hip-hop community, and hip-hop as a whole.

Don't check this out if you don't like having fun, don't like hip-hop, or are easily offended.

9/10
