Less Than Jake - Greased

less than jake, grease, greased, chris demakes, roger manganelli, vinnie fiorello
Another short review for a short album. 'Greased' is Less Than Jake's EP where they cover songs from the film 'Grease', and for the most point, it succeeds in trying to capture the energy the original songs had, and throwing a bit of a punk-edge into them as they try to re-invent the songs while remaining close to the originals.

less than jake, grease, greased, chris demakes, roger manganelli, vinnie fiorelloWhat we have here are some playful, not very serious covers of some of the songs from the film, with a bit of a humorous edge, given that there are two vocalists in LTJ, both of them male, and hearing them sing the female vocalist's part in the original songs is funny, because you'll be hearing Chris sing "I need a man who can keep me satisfied!" and similar lines in 'You're the One That I Want', and Roger and Buddy, their trombonist, exchanging scats in the ending track 'We Go Together', trying to out-do eachother by making progressively longer and longer scats, until finally Buddy makes one specific scat which causes Roger to just yell "..What the hell does that mean?!"

LTJ still hadn't gotten the best production yet, but the production here is alright. They didn't write any of the songs, so I can't really critique them on any of the lyrics or melodies.

If you're an LTJ fan, or if you even just know the songs in Grease, this is fun to check out.
