Beastie Boys founder Adam Yauch loss his battle to cancer on May 4th, his beloved wife Dechen Wangdu.was by his bedside, Would you like to know more about her?
47 year-old Adam Yauch was one of members of the music band the Beastie Boys along Adam Horovitz, Michael Diamond, In 2009 Adam was diagnosed with cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node, he loss his battle to cancer on May 4th, 2012 at the age of 47.
Dechen Wangdu American born to Tibetan activist parents was a member of Students for a Free Tibet, the organization for which funds were raise at on September 10th. 1995 at Harvard University were The Dalai Lama was giving a speech and where Yauch attened and met Dechen.
Although it was until months later that they reconnected at another conference for Students for A Free Tibet, at the time Yauch was considering becoming a monk, but I guess love won that battle.
“I was debating between the idea of being a celibate and becoming a monk or actually having family,” he said during an interview with Rolling Stone. “I was deciding whether or not I wanted to try being in a serious relationship or just stay on my own…Dechen and I started spending some time together and hanging out, it just felt like it would be great to have a family. That would be the right thing to do.”
Yauch and Dechen married on May 31st, 1998 in New York in a Tibetan ceremony, Rancid performed at their wedding reception. Dechen i involved in other organization for a free Tibet like Free Tibet, the U.S. Tibet Committee, and the Tibetan Women’s Association, she was featured in Yauch’s 1998 documentary Free Tibet. On September 30th 1998 Dechen became the proud mommy of her adorable 14 year-old daughter Tenzin Losel Yauch or Lousel as family and friends call her.
