Hodgy Beats - The Dena Tape
Hodgy Beats of OFWGKTA is a very crucial member. He's Tyler, The Creator's partner in crime with their style about demonic things and otherwise bad subjects. If Tyler's gonna mess someone up, Hodgy's at his side. But does this mean Hodgy can't stand on his own? Nope.
Hodgy stands tall as one of the leading members of OFWGKTA. Where as Tyler's (who I will get onto, along with the rest of OFWGKTA) style relies on shock factor, depression, and cleverness, Hodgy's style is more to talk about himself, how awesome he is, women, money, street life, along with some creepingly disturbing themes.
Hodgy's voice is smooth and slick, he's really the most ghetto sounding out of all of the OFWGKTA members. His verses flow nicely into eachother, at times making it sound like it's just coming naturally to him.
Hodgy on this album, honestly, is great, but that does not mean it's without its flaws. He wasn't as strong of a performer as he is now, and on an album with 22 tracks and hardly any guest stars, a big majority of the album is dedicated strictly to Hodgy. I also don't know who was making the beats for this album, might've been Left Brain, but while some of the beats are great, some are unmemorable.
Does this mean it's not worth your time if you like OFWGKTA or hip-hop in general? Nope. Just don't expect the greatest mixtape ever. Maybe this will grow on me, but for now I'm feeling either a 6/10 or a 7/10 on this, I really can't decide. It's a 6/10 to me now duee to some tracks being good, while some just being throwaways, but I want to almost give it a 7/10, because just like a lot of OFWGKTA's work, I think it'll grow on me with time.
