Hollywood Undead - Swan Songs

hollywood undead, swan songs, deuce, johnny 3 tears, no 5, charlie scene, everywhere i go, my black dahliaYeah, I know they had a demo before this with some different songs but I can't find it, and even then, it's not that great.

Hollywood Undead is built of (from left to right in the picture below) Charlie Scene, J-Dog, Deuce, Da Kurlzz, Funny Man, and Johnny 3 Tears.

hollywood undead, swan songs, deuce, johnny 3 tears, j-dog, charlie scene, funny man, da kurlzzYou may have heard about these guys before from emo kids, how they obsess over them and all that, well HU isn't emo by any means. They just got popular on MySpace, which is, as you know, populated by stupid emo children.

This whole album is a combination of metal and hip-hop, mixed with some pop elements for the choruses. HU is lead by frontman Deuce, who is also the chorus singer, and wow, he's amazing. His voice, which he can't sing well in terms of talent, his voice is just really fit for the music. It's really clean, serene, and somewhat high pitched. He's probably the reason most people listen to this band, because his choruses are so catchy and occasionally epic.

So what do the other members do? As far as instruments, aside from the drums being Da Kurlzz, I really don't know. Charlie Scene, J-Dog, Johnny 3 Tears, and FUnny Man rap, but J-Dog and Da Kurlzz both occasionally scream for the band. But no, this isn't a screaming band. They just do it a few times, mainly in 'Undead' and 'My Black Dahlia' while the other members rap or Deuce sings.

To go into each member, Charlie Scene sound a bit like Eminem and only really talks about partying and having sex, J-Dog is the most violent member with threats of violence in his verses, Johnny 3 Tears tries to be their most motivating/inspirational member with doing songs about depression and moving on, and finally Funny Man only appears in a few songs with his deep voice, but is always joined by his partner in crime, Charlie Scene, as they both talk about street life.

The great thing about this album is just that it's insanely catchy in some songs. 'Everywhere I Go' pretty much catches you the first time it's played due to Deuce's chorus, and other songs, aside from their slower/rock-ish ones, are pretty much the same way.

The only thing really bringing down this album is some of the slower rock songs like 'My Black Dahlia' and 'Young'. Maybe it's just me, but I don't hate them, but I don't really like them that much either. Also depending on who you are, this album may get annoying to you, but I got it a year ago, and I still love most of the songs on it.

Haters gon' hate.

8/10
