Periphery - Periphery (Instrumental)

periphery, spencer sotelo, instrumental, debut, self titled, misha mansoor, bulb, djentBasically an instrumental version of Periphery's debut album. Why review this? Because it's good enough to stand on its own, that's why!

periphery, spencer sotelo, instrumental, debut, self titled, misha mansoor, bulb, djentLike the title will imply, it's instrumental, meaning Spencer Sotelo's vocals are completely gone. For some fans, they absolutely hated Spencer's vocals, so they are rejoicing over this album being released, and while I actually loved his vocals, I still love this for different reasons.

It seems like so much of the instrumentals actually are covered up by Spencer's vocals on the regular version of the debut. There are so many little things going on in the background, and hidden instrumental melodies that you never could've heard unless you were paying very close attention to the regular version. The version of 'Jetpacks Was Yes!' is particularly breathtaking, as I had never noticed just how beautiful some of the arrangements were, what with the piano, synths, and the sort, because Spencer's vocals were always mixed higher than them!

I wouldn't say I like this more than the regular version, because I do quite like Spencer, but this isn't bad at all. It's a new look at something that was already great, and it made me appreciate some of the songs even more. Definitely worth checking out if you already liked Periphery, or if you couldn't stand Spencer.

7/10
